Character Art Pricing

Options

Different shading options:

Cel-shading: shading is done all over the image, but does not use any gradients.

Full shading: shading is done all over the image, using gradients in shadows and highlights.

Note:

Character details such as complicated outfits, scales, fur, tattoos, etc may cost more than. High detail in things such as hair textures, body hair, and disability aids (such as wheelchairs) do not cost extra.

All prices listed for character art are for half or full body. I don’t generally do portrait commissions but am open to them.
However, please feel free to ask about portrait, chibi, or pet commissions.

Background options:

No background: background is just a colour, with optional shadow under characters’ feet. Client can request a transparent background PNG file.

Monotone background: background consists of line-art, with one colour in different tonal values filling the shapes, but 0 shading is done. This option adds dimension to an illustration while keeping focus on the characters.

Cel-shading or full shading: shading is done all over the image, using either cel-shading (no gradients), or full shading (gradients in shadows and highlights).

Private vs Commercial:

Private: artwork will not be resold, or used to promote any service or product. Private use includes DND characters, profile pictures, gifts for loved ones, etc. Artist owns the copyright of the finished art.

Commercial: artwork will be used to promote a product or resold. This includes illustrations of an author’s book, merch being sold along side a book, or art being used in YouTube videos, podcasts, etc. Client owns the usage rights of the finished art.

Commercial pricing can vary depending on how the artwork will be used, and the artist can work with the client’s budget. The prices listed here are for SMALL creators/businesses and not large-scale publishers/production houses.

Will and Won’t Dos:

I am interested in drawing:

  • Commercial work for romance books (especially queer stories)

  • Marginalised characters (Queer, POC, disabled, fat, etc)

  • Fantasy character designs (merpeople, D&D characters, anthro/furry)

  • Animals (both pets and wild animals, or fantasy animals, etc)

  • NSFW content (please contact me for a PDF of portfolio and prices)

I am not interested in:

  • Highly realistic art (unless it’s of animals)

  • Portraits (prefer waist-up or full body)

  • Desaturated or greyscale art (though I am willing to just do line art with no colour)

  • Dystopian settings and excessive gore

  • Children’s book illustrations (unless they’re just of animals)

  • I can do comic/sequential art of up to 10 pages, but am not looking to work on any long term projects.

Notes on the Process

Any commission under $200 must be paid in full up front, and anything above $200 will be charged 50% up front and 50% on completion. Payment plans can be discussed if needed.

Your spot in my commission queue is only guaranteed once that first payment is made. On average, commissions take about 2 weeks, though more characters, more detail, or big backgrounds will take longer. It will also take longer if the client takes a few days to reply to emails, or asks for multiple revisions. There is an option to skip the commission queue if the client has a strict deadline, which includes a large fee depending on how long the queue currently is, and when the client needs the work done by. It may be an addition of 50%-100% of the commission fee.

The client will get the opportunity to ask for edits and adjustments to their art in 3 phases: the first sketch stage, the line art and flat colour stage, and the final stage. Some changes (such as changes that directly contradict/were not mentioned in the initial design brief) may add extra cost to the final piece.
